History
  • After enjoying lunch together, a group of friends in Plainfield realized that some in their community were without lunch and friends to share it with. In 2003, they created the Kids' Summer Lunch Bunch to provide sack lunches and socialization to children in Plainfield.
  • The Lincoln Bank Charitable Foundation, through the Hendricks County Community Foundation, awarded the group a grant that made it possible to begin serving lunches in the summer of 2004. The Lunch Bunch operated with the support and guidance of the Hendricks County Community Foundation.
  • By 2006, the communities of Amo, Brownsburg, Coatesville, Danville, Lizton, Pittsboro, Plainfield and Stilesville all had Lunch Bunch programs providing free sack lunches, book, exercise and socialization to children during the summer months. In 2009, Avon will begin a Lunch Bunch program.
  • In 2008, over 6,000 sack lunches were served to children in the Hendricks County community. Nearly 5,000 books were given to children to encourage reading during the summer.
  • The Kids' Summer Lunch Bunch received nonprofit status in 2008 with 501c3 currently pending. The Lunch Bunch operates independently.
